Richard grew up in

Brunswick, ME on Mere Point and there are many stories of his childhood adventures. One in particular is the story of how he rescued three young men who were stranded on a floating chunk of ice in Maquoit Bay for which he received an honorary recognition from President Richard Nixon on April 10, 1973.

Richard and Brenda took on a huge undertaking when they purchased a Grange Hall in 2005 and proceeded to turn it into their home. With his ability to ‘do anything,’ the hall morphed into a fun and loving home for all the family, including huge gatherings for holidays, weddings, and other events. In March, just before we knew the seriousness of his illness, Richard moved a large antique gazebo next the house and that was going to be their Spring project.

Richard left his own personal message to those he left behind. “Thank you to everyone who touched my life whether a fleeting moment or decades. You have given me this life that I cherished and I can ask no more.”

A memorial service and celebration of life reception will be held at 3:00PM on Thursday, May 26th, 2016 at 22 Upland Road in Lisbon, Maine. All who knew and cared for Richard are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a plant for one of the many gardens that Richard loved or a donation in his honor to the Hospice House in Auburn Maine.
