Paper shredding event
The Cape Elizabeth Recycling Committee is offering a paper shredding event on Saturday, June 4, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Recycling Center on Dennison Drive. This event is for Cape residents only and there is a limit of four boxes per vehicle.

Churches hold yard sales
On Saturday, June 4, two Scarborough churches will hold yard sales. The West Scarborough United Methodist Church on Route 1 in Dunstan will hold its sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The Blue Point Congregational Church, located at 236 Pine Point Road, will hold its sale 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Event includes furniture, household items, books, clothing, toys and other treasures. Also enjoy a bake sale table and hot dog/hamburger lunch.

Cape Classic tourney
Cape Lacrosse will hold its 10th annual tournament on Saturday, June 4, on the Cape Elizabeth School campus. Games start at 9 a.m. and run through 6 p.m. across four playing fields. Concessions will be available all day. The event features Cape players, as well as 42 visiting teams from across the State.

Rotary’s ‘Touch a Truck’
The Scarborough Rotary Club will hold its annual Touch a Truck family-friendly event on Saturday, June 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Scarborough Downs. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family, with children under 2 free. Event includes demonstrations, raffles, pony rides, music and lots and lots of big trucks.

National Trails Day hike
On Saturday, June 4, the South Portland Land Trust invites the public to join a guided 1.1-mile hike on the popular Clark’s Pond in celebration of National Trails Day. Hikers will leave from the parking lot at the Home Depot at 9 a.m. Land trust board member Jeff Ryan, author of “Appalachian Odyssey,” an account of his 28-year hike of the Appalachian Trail, will lead the event. Participants should plan on a 45-minute, moderately strenuous woodland walk. Circle Camps fundraiser
Circle Camps for Grieving Children will hold a fundraiser at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Thatcher’s Restaurant in South Portland. The Circle Camps provides free overnight camps to young girls who have experienced the death of a parent. The event includes raffles, an auction, children’s activities, live entertainment and the chance to hear from Circle Camps campers. Additional fundraising sponsors include Halfway Rock Band and Wyman’s Auto Body. Circle Camps held its first program at Camp Tapawingo in 2002 with 32 campers. Hadacol Bouncers concert
On Saturday, June 4, at 7 p.m., the South Portland Public Library will hold its last After Hours Concert of the season featuring the Hadacol Bouncers. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The band, formed in the summer of 2013, plays New Orleans- and Chicago- style jazz. Pizza for land trust
On Monday, June 6, Romeo’s Pizza at Oak Hill will host a benefit night for the Scarborough Land Trust, 5-9 p.m. That night a portion of all pizza sales, eat-in or take-out, will benefit the land trust.

In addition, the land trust has announced that it’s extended the temporary trail at Pleasant Hill Preserve. Look for the green blazes. Visitors are invited check out this new trail and other land trust trails on National Trials Day, June 4. Download free trail maps at www.scarboroughlandtrust.org.

iMake program returns
iMake, the South Portland Public Library’s do-it-yourself series for kids 10-18, will return at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7. This summer includes a fun line-up of maker activities to keep teen and pre-teen patrons having fun.
