Garbage to Garden, in cooperation with the town of Scarborough, created three, free compost drop-off sites for town residents. The locations are Wal-Mart, 500 Gallery Boulevard; the Maine Veteran’s Home, 290 U.S. Route 1; and Pine Tree Waste, 87 Pleasant Hill Road.
Scarborough is the ninth town in southern Maine to be provided composting service by Garbage to Garden, which also provides subscription-based curbside composting in South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook, Portland, Yarmouth, Falmouth and Cumberland.
“We are excited to partner with the town of Scarborough to provide residents the option to compost. Our mission is to get everyone to compost and we’re another town closer to that goal,” said Tyler Frank, president and founder of Garbage to Garden.
Founded in 2012, Garbage to Garden offers Maine’s original curbside composting program and continues to spearhead efforts to keep food waste out of landfills in order to mitigate the effects of climate change and to regenerate the soil. The company diverts up to 10 tons of organic material a day.
