The Cancer Community Center in South Portland is offering a variety of new summer wellness workshops. All workshops are free and open to the adults dealing with a cancer diagnosis or caring for someone with cancer.

A “Movement with Resistance,” class starts on Tuesday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m. and will run through July 19. This class is led by Jill Keimach, a third-year exercise science and health and wellness major at Saint Joseph’s College.

On June 22, the center will also offer a new six-week Summer Circuit Series. This training program is designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance and will be led by Nicole Avery, executive director of the Cancer Community Center. The class will meet on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. through July 27.

Then, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, the cancer center will offer, “Principles of Qigong,” which will be led by Jason Ames, founder and owner of the Maine Center for Taijiquan. Qigong is an ancient Chinese health-care program that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. This four-week class will run through Aug. 30.
