I was disheartened to read of developer Risbara Bros.’ plans to build more housing on Spring Street in Westbrook. Apparently they are going to buy a golf course opposite their current project (Blue Spruce Farm) and build another 300 housing units. Say it isn’t so, Joe.

When they started their first project, they moved a lot of dirt and built some sort of horrible drainage arrangement that features two large black drainpipe outfalls, clearly visible to drivers on Spring Street to this day. With their complete disregard of visuals, right away I suspected things were not going to go well.

Since that time they have built numerous cookie-cutter houses and huge, ghastly apartment buildings, all of the same design and color. They have scattered them about the property, willy-nilly, perhaps to sort of, kind of, almost disguise the fact that they are all the same.

If one were to come home in their Uber taxi, somewhat under the weather (inebriated), how would one be able to find their home or apartment?

Is this the plan for the other side of Spring Street? I ask the whoever-is-in-charge officials of Westbrook to insist that variety be added to this development. I would hope that Risbara Bros. can do better.

While I’m sure Risbara Bros. maximized its profit in the first development, did the company consider those of us who have to drive by such a soulless, spirit-sucking, mood-destroying, hideous-looking conglomeration of poorly designed and situated housing on a daily basis? I think not.
