WATERVILLE — A dog that attacked and injured a passer-by in the city Monday had bitten the city’s animal control officer last year, police said.
The owner of the dog, Deanna Butcher, 55, was summoned on six charges Monday after her pitbull attacked and bit someone walking past her house on Belmont Avenue at 12:32 p.m., according to Deputy Chief William Bonney.
The dog was unleashed and ran out from the property to the passer-by, who went to a hospital to get treated for minor injuries, Bonney said.
The city’s animal control officer, Christopher Martinez, arrived at the house and recognized the dog from an incident last year that resulted in the dog biting him, Bonney said.
Butcher was summoned on charges of keeping a dangerous dog and allowing a dog to be at large, and two charges apiece of violating rabies prevention protocol for dogs and keeping an unlicensed dog.
