South Bristol artist Sally Loughridge is showing more than 50 original pieces of artwork at Mae’s Cafe & Bakery in Bath through Sept. 30. All of the oil and soft pastel paintings in the show, titled “From Smutty Nose to Hurricane Hole,” are for sale.

The show’s title was selected to give a sense of the many places along Maine’s coast that Loughbridge is drawn to. Smutty Nose, for example, is a rocky outcropping from Manana Island, which forms and helps shelter the harbor of Monhegan Island. Hurricane Hole is a protected cove in South Bristol where boats can find shelter during a storm through narrow entrances between ledges. Whatever the site, Loughridge paints when a pattern of light and shadow catches her eye.

Mae’s Cafe & Bakery is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily for breakfast and lunch, and the bakery is open until 3 p. m. Loughridge’s paintings hang in the main dining room, two downstairs spaces and in a large upstairs room. More of her artwork can also be seen at Pemaquid Art Gallery, Mast Cove Galleries in Kennebunkport and Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro. A selection of works will hang at Archipelago in Rockland this September. For more information visit maescafeandbakery.com or sallyloughridge.com.
