Film screenings

The Merrill Film Society at Merrill Memorial Library will screen “Close-up” (in Farsi with English subtitles) Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. The 1990 Iranian film by Abbas Kiarostami focuses on the real-life trial of a man who impersonated a filmmaker, conning a family into believing they would star in his new film. It features the people involved, acting as themselves.

“North by Northwest,” the 1957 classic film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starting Cary Grant, screens Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. The viewings will be at Lewis Hall on the library’s third floor. The films are free and popcorn will be served.

The library’s August matinee, “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” rated R, screens at 1 p.m.  on Monday, Aug. 29, in Lewis Hall. It stars Tina Fey.
