Norman was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, to Harriet Corbett and Norman McLeod Dixon. He moved to Biddeford in 1968.
Norman worked as a machinist at Lund Manufacturing in Saco from 1968 to 1983, and for Pratt- Whitney from 1983 until he retired in 1998.
He met the love of his life, Gladys Budd-LaBonte, on a canoe trip down the Saco River, and the two of them married May 20, 1993, in Springvale.
Norman was a kind, generous man who enjoyed laughing and having a good time. He was an avid swimmer and golfer. He was always up to a challenge, canoeing the Saco River or spending weekends in North Conway, New Hampshire, with his wife. He was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed time with his family.
He was a member of Masons Dunlap Lodge No. 47 of Biddeford, Sanford Elks, Springvale Social Club and Sanford Wolves.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his youngest son, Scott William Dixon; and his great-granddaughter, Kegan Angela Dixon.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 23 years, Gladys Dixon of Springvale; three sons, Michael and his wife Holly of Arizona, Mark and his significant other Soon-Cha Ferguson of Connecticut, and Brian and his wife Jennifer of Florida; one daughter, Susan Packard and her husband Michael of Oakland; daughter-in-law Priscille Dixon of Newfield; stepdaughters Donna and her husband Andy Desrosiers of New Hampshire, Karen and her husband Eric Plushner of North Berwick, Paula and her husband Cortez Williams of Illinois, and Debbie LaBonte and her significant other Richard Brailsford of New Hampshire; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Norman’s ashes will be spread in a private ceremony. A celebration of life will be held 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Springvale Social Club, 22 Bridge St., Springvale.
