Sunset canoe tour

The Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center will hold a sunset canoe tour, Thursday, Aug. 25, at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $12 for adult members and $10 for child members and $14 and $12, respectively, for non-members. Pool input wanted

The Donald L. Richards Community Pool in Cape Elizabeth will re-open next month, but before that, residents have a chance to learn what’s going on at the pool and share their suggestions about how the facility can be improved.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., a public forum will be held in the cafeteria at the high school. Pool supervisor Andrew Kemp and his staff will be on hand to provide information and take input.

The annual Knights of Columbus 5K race, held in Scarborough, will benefit the South Portland Food Cupboard this year. The race will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26. The start and finish is at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church on Black Point Road. Event also includes a Kids fun run, for those under 14, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Register online at www.baystateevents.com.

Dog show aids shelter

The Village Crossings, assisted living center in Cape Elizabeth, will hold a dog show at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. Members of the community can enter their dogs into the show, which is a fundraiser for the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook. Dogs will be judged in a variety of categories, and prizes will be given to all participants.

The event also includes live music and refreshments. The registration fee is $5 and all dogs must also have and up-to-date vaccination records. Call Carly at 799-7332 to register or to for more information.

Studio 408

to reopen

A re-opened Studio 408 in South Portland will once again be offering dance classes to kids ages 4-18 this fall, and the studio is offering an open house to interested families on Sunday, Aug. 28, 1-5 p.m. The studio is in the same location, at 408 Broadway.

Studio 408 will offer a full schedule of classes in modern dance and circus arts, which are designed to focus on developing the student’s creative voice and performance skills. In addition, it will also offer adult classes through Moving Target Portland. Betsy Dunphy, former owner of the dance studio, will continue to offer her adult tap class on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Richards Pool in Cape Elizabeth is being upgraded and will reopen next month. Pool staff are seeking public input on how to further improve the facility.
