Rotary plans golf tourney

The Rotary Club of Westbrook/Gorham has invited the public to its 22nd annual Rotary Classic Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Gorham Country Club.

The 18-hole, four-ball scramble will begin with a shotgun start at  noon. Those participating should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. for check in and assignments. Prizes will be awarded to the top foursomes, closest to the pin, longest drives, and many others.

Participation is open to everyone and players can sign up individually or as a team. A number of sponsorship packages are also available for individuals and/or business who wish to contribute with a cash and/or prize donation.

The proceeds will benefit the Rotary’s local high school and vocational scholarship programs, as well as the 3 Day Rotary Youth Leadership Awards programs and other local community programs in Gorham and Westbrook.

Stacki in summer music program

Hayden Stacki of Westbrook was among a select group of high school students who recently participated in a recent weeklong Wind Ensemble Institute at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Stacki is a 2016 graduate of Westbrook High School and the son of Matt and Karen Stacki.

The residential summer program for talented high school musicians focuses on chamber music and symphonic wind ensemble performance, with a full daily schedule of rehearsals, private lessons, seminars and performances. Students are admitted to the program by audition and have the opportunity to interact with distinguished Susquehanna faculty and other musically gifted peers.

New sidewalks along downtown Main Street that will be a mix of concrete and brick were underway this week as construction on the Bridge Street bridge project comes to a close. The streetscape enhancements including the wider sidewalks will also feature new landscaping and the pedestrian bridge over the Presumpscot River.
