sets candidates night
The Ferry Village Neighborhood Conservation Association will host a Candidates Forum on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. The forum, which is open to the public, will take place at the Betsy Ross House, 99 Preble St. All seven candidates running for the two at-large seats on the South Portland City Council have been invited.

Robbie Foundation
The Robbie Foundation will hold its fourth annual gala fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 14, from 6:30-9 p.m., at the Black Point Inn in Scarborough. The foundation supports children with special needs. The event includes comedian Juston McKinney, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $75 per person, $140 per couple or $550 for a talbe of eight. celebrates harvest
On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 6:30-10 p.m., the Scarborough Education Foundation will hold its annual Harvest Celebration at Bayley’s Camping Resort, off Pine Point Road. Studio 408 holds grand opening
The new Studio 408 in South Portland is holding a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. for its new venue designed to provide cutting-edge training and performance in experimental dance. The studio is located at 408 Broadway. The evening includes overlapping performances by local dancers, drinks, conversation and a dance party for all. Suggested donation is $5 at the door. Land trust offers Honeyfest
The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust will offer a session on honey and beekeeping on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 7-9 p.m. Cape Elizabeth beekeeper Tony Owens will talk about bees and their role in the town’s local agriculture. Attendees will learn about bee biology and life cycles and to look inside a bee hive. The cost is $6. Register through Community Services at www.communityservices.org.
Marsh clean-up

The Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center will hold its annual fall clean-up on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m.-noon. Volunteers are needed to pick up trash and prepare the grounds for winter. The Cape Elizabeth Police Department will hold a collection of unwanted medicine on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Public Safety building, 325 Ocean House Road. The AARP Foundation is looking for volunteers interested in providing tax-filing assistance to local seniors through its Tax-Aide program. There are a variety of roles for individuals with every level of experience.
Last year, in Maine, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 25,000 taxpayers with their tax questions and return preparation for both federal and state income tax returns.
