BIDDEFORD — Leo Paul Couture, 93, of Biddeford died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility in Biddeford.

He was born March 23, 1923 in Biddeford a son of Adelard A. And Yvonne (Drouin) Couture and was educated locally, graduating from St. Louis High School in the Class of 1942.

During World War II he served three years in the Army Special Forces in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. Following the war he served in the army of occupation in Tokyo.

On Aug. 7, 1954 he married Jeannette Antonia Gregoire in St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford.

He was employed as a ship fitter and job planner at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 33 years. In his retirement he made many friends working in the Biddeford Savings parking lot.

Leo was a member of the Amvets, the Eagles, the 50’s Club, and St. Louis Alumni Association. His interests included football, basketball and baseball with special interest in the Red Sox and Patriots. He wintered 18 years with his wife at Eagle Village in Florida. He had also traveled extensively.

He was preceded in death by Jeannette, his wife of 48 years, on Jan. 22, 2003 and also by two brothers, Robert and Ferdinand Couture.

He is survived by: a daughter, Constance O’Rourke of Biddeford; two sons, Guy Couture and his wife Louise of Slocomb, Alabama, and Carl Couture and his wife Lisa of North Waterboro; siblings, Sr. Madeleine Couture of Biddeford, Roland Couture and his wife Yolande of Quebec, Cananda, Roger Couture and his wife Carmen of Henderson, Nevada; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Visiting Hours will be 9-10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the Hope Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
