He was born July 3, 1927 in Biddeford, a son of Jovite A. and Amanda (Rouillard) St. Pierre and was educated in Biddeford schools.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
On April 3, 1948 he married Gloria T. Allaire in St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.
He had been employed in local shoe shops and also the Saco-Lowell Shops, then went to work at Fielding’s Auto Sales in Scarborough for 29 years. He last worked ten years with Saco Defense, retiring in 1992.
Richard was a member of the American Legion, the St. Louis Alumni Association, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus (Luke E. Hart Council), and a member of the St. Andre’s Parish Glee Club. He enjoyed playing cards and following the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. During his stay at the Lodges he became known as “The Candy Man” since he went about giving candy to his fellow residents.
He was preceded in death by Gloria his wife of 58 years on March 2, 2007 and by son Raymond R. St. Pierre in 2004.
He is survived by: a daughter, Anne R. Grenier and her husband Rick of Acton; a son, Paul R. St. Pierre and his wife Barbara of Saco; a brother, Robert St. Pierre and his companion Claire Nute of Biddeford; seven grandchildren, Glorianne, Keith, Adam, Christopher, Sarah, Josh and Seth; and 10 great grandchildren, Aaron, Delina, Raymond, Antonio, Serina, John, Jonathan, Ariana, Kyle and Paul.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anne’s Chapel of St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.
