Sculptures made by seventh- and eighth-graders in art teacher Ashley Shoukimas’s class hang on objects at Durham Community School. Principal Wil Pidden said that the sculptures are a component of work on risk-taking. Student teams make the sculptures out of bubblewrap and tape and use their own torsos and limbs as the “molds” by which the sculptures are created. They identify where they want the art displayed and plan their sculpture’s pose accordingly. Their public art creations are then shown in a way that challenges the perception of where art would be displayed. Courtesy photo
