Clifford A. Barnes, 85, of Brook Street, Westbrook, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born Jan., 15, 1931 in West Baldwin, the son of Almon and Marion Barnes. He attended local schools and graduated from Fryburg Academy. After high school, he served in Korea with U.S. Army in the 3rd Infantry Division. After his service to his country, he worked many years as an engineer for New England Telephone.
A longtime resident of Westbrook, he enjoyed canoeing, fishing, and hiking up in the Allagash area of Maine.
He was predeceased by a brother, Burleigh Barnes, and a sister, Evelyn Hedges.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 62 years, Llewella Barnes of Westbrook; a sister, Mildred Nicoletos of Florida; a sister-in-law, Marietta Jaques and her husband Philip Jr., of Westbook; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland.
Dennett, Craig & Pate 13 Portland Road, Buxton, (Bar Mills) is entrusted with the services. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, P.O. Box 336 Westbrook, ME 04098
