On defense Dimitri Lubin, Jacoby Bachelder, Kaden Campbell, Jonathan Mclaskey, Andrew Catalano, Dube, Bongomin, Augustine, Edgerly, Fusco, Merlin Smith, Johnson, Adolfo Kuyangisa, Landon Rancourt, Harvey, Mitchell Violette, Backman, and Apallo Bartlett were able to make 40 tackles together in the last game.
The Mites would like to thank their sponsors, Presumpscot Hose Company and Valentine Hose Company, for their three-year sponsorship, and also would like to thank other sponsors, their parents, coaches and volunteers for making the program what it is today.
Pee Wees
The Noble Pee Wee Squires visited Westbrook last Saturday and found two determined teams from Westbrook would control the line of scrimmage the entire night. The 5th grade Westbrook Pee Wees won 14-0 as did the 6th grade team.
In the first game, the 5th grade Blazes were sparked by the heads-up play of Connor Boulette, who stripped the ball from a Noble running back and ran for a touchdown on the first score of the night. The two-point conversion pass was tipped, so the score was 6-0 at the half.
This hard-fought game saw Brady Harvie pass for 44 yards on seven attempts. The cold and rainy evening was as much of a formidable opponent to Westbrook as was Noble.
In the second half, Harvie’s pass to running back Jackson Young for 20 yards sparked another drive that led to a Jackson Young touchdown. The extra point was caught by Boulette and put the Blazes up 14-0. Blocking for the Westbrook offense was Christian Harvey, Lance Basinet, Owen Pilsbury, Molly Mitchell, Quinton LeClerc, Israel Lambo, Caleb Reid and Anthony Rogers.
A tough team defense was led by Pilsbury’s consistent line play. He had six tackles on the evening, followed by Rogers’ four. Boulette, Zach Jalbert, Lambo and Mohammad Mousa had three tackles each. Lance Basinet had two tackles and a fumble recovery that stopped a threatening Noble drive. Harvie, LeClerc, Mitchell, Thomas Lewis and C Harvey had two tackles as well. Westbrook’s solid defense ensured that the score remained 14-0.
The second game of the night was an old-fashioned display of old school football. A thunder-and-lightning running game was complemented by hard hits and solid tackling on defense.
Behind the continuous line blocks and downfield blocking of Ben Eugley, Carter Dow, Carson Dow, Damon Chandler, Jared Fickett and Mohammad Mousa, Steven White and Jackson Sanders were able to pile on the rushing yards and juked defenders all night long. For the lighting style of the running game, White ran for 133 yards on seven carries and one touchdown, and Sanders ran for 62 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Tanner and Dom Brunner ran hard displaying a thunder style running game that made the night skies consider opening up and rain again. Both Tanner and Brunner ran for 30 yards on five each and each time they touched the ball, it seemed a dump truck could be driven through the line. Under center was Ryan Francheschi who rushed for 25 yards himself, scored two touchdowns and converted on a two point conversion on a QB Sneak.
Carter Dow led the defense with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery on the night. Eugley had five tackles, Carson Dow and Franceschi had four tackles each and Brunner and Chandler added two each.
Westbrook topped Noble 28-0 on the night, topping off a great season, with both Pee Wee teams going 5-1-1 on the season. Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, officials and families for their support
