NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. — The 82nd New England Association High School Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday at Ponaganset High School.
Runners from throughout New England took part.
In the girls competition, Champlain Valley, Vt., won the team competition with 121 points, edging past Sowhegan, N.H., which finished with 163 points.
Katherine Leckbee of Mt. Ararat ran, taking 29th-place in 18:51.80.
Jacqueline Gaughan of Exeter, N.H., was first in 17:34.11.
In the boys 5K run, Dave Principe Jr., of La Salle Academy from Providence, R. I., won the race in 15: 13.39, while Staples, Conn., took the overall competition with 72 points, ahead of La Salle, which had 103 points.
Henry Jaques of Freeport was the top area runner, taking 19th in 15:59.40. Cameron Meier of Mt. Ararat was 36th in 16:13.73, while teammate Lisandro Berry- Gaviria finished in 17:10.12.
