BRUNSWICK — Four members of the Bowdoin women’s volleyball team have been recognized in All- Region awards announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week.

Seniors Katie Doherty, Quincy Leech and Erika Sklaver, along with first-year Caroline Flaharty were honored as First Team All- Region selections.

Doherty was voted the New England Small College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in her career, becoming the first volleyball player in league history to accomplish the feat. Doherty led all NESCAC players with 572 digs and 6.43 digs per set. She was also a threat behind the service line, as she ranked fourth in the conference with 42 service aces and 0.47 service aces per set. Doherty is a three-time All- NESCAC First Team selection and graduates as the school record-holder with 2,046 career digs.

Leech set up the Bowdoin offense again this fall and concluded a sensational career with the Polar Bears. The senior setter led the NESCAC in assists with 864, averaging 9.71 assists per set. Leech made her second straight appearance on the All-NESCAC First Team and ends her career with 3,206 career assists, becoming just the second Polar Bear in school history to surpass the 3,000-assist plateau.

Flaharty was selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and named to the All- NESCAC Second Team. Flaharty is the first Polar Bear to earn the Rookie of the Year honor. She ranked second in the conference in kills per set (3.62) and recorded 253 digs in her first season.

Sklaver earned her first postseason award after capping her career with a fantastic senior campaign. A co-captain along with Leech, she averaged a career-best 2.72 kills/set and .298 hitting percentage while also notching a career-high 15 aces and 54 digs. She ends her career at Bowdoin with 333 blocks, ranking third all-time in school history.
