The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday. The office will not be open on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24.

Meetings

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall in the Dewitt Meeting Room.

The Planning Board will meet Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 a.m., at Mallett Hall. Items on the agenda include tiny house definition, driveway application and checklist and solar farms. The board also has meetings scheduled for Nov. 30 and Dec. 14, both at 8 a.m., as it continues to explore and gather information on definitions and requirements for tiny houses in Pownal.

Big weekends

for craft shows

Bradbury Mountain Arts 18th annual holiday show and sale of fine art and crafts will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Mallett Hall, 429 Hallowell Road, Route 9, in Pownal Center. Some 17 artists will show painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, sailcloth bags, jewelry, wood-turning, ceramics, fiber arts and more. Warm food and baked goods will be sold by Girl Scouts. The Coffin’s Corner Christmas Sale, at 66 Loring Lane in Pownal, is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Nov. 19-20 and Nov. 25-27. David and Connie Coffin, their son David, Cheryl Vosmus and other friends of the family have joined hands on a huge effort for the sale. There will be dozens of items for sale – from handmade fleece jackets to American Girl doll clothes to jams and jellies – and free coffee and doughnuts.

The Coffin’s Corner Christmas Show will feature Christmas wreaths, wreath holders and ornaments. Connie Coffin, a sewer, has made the fleece jackets, scarves and felted mittens, while the Coffin men make wooden spoons and walking sticks. Vosmus fashions the American Girl doll clothes. Visitors also can get jewelry, dog accessories, sea glass art and great food, such as jams, jellies, sweet pickles, pickled beets, pies and filled cookies.

The Blueberry Ridge Farm Holiday Sale, at 67 Loring Lane, also is Nov. 19-20, Nov. 25-27 and Dec. 2-3-4. Kathy and Dick Hogue and their children and in-laws will hold the sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. those days. The family will offer hand knits, felted items, hand-carved spoons and toys and dolls, Christmas decorations and more. Home-made hot mulled cider and baked goods will be on the table, while jams, jellies and hot sauces will be for sale.

The owners of Fuego Diablo, at 52 Loring Lane, will hold their annual Holiday Sale on the weekend of Nov. 25-25 and Dec. 2-4. Jamie and Wren Pearson are offering fun, handcrafted items for seasonal gifts. The Pearsons also will have jewelry, toys, art cards and whimsical artwork plus the creations of Big Phil’s Kitchen. ‘Nutcracker’ features

Pownal residents Isabelle Pocock and Tess Welch are among the dancers performing in Maine State Ballet’s 40th anniversary production of “The Nutcracker,” at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 4. IMPACT seeks

local involvement

IMPACT is the parent-teacher organization at Pownal Elementary School whose mission is to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for the students at the school. Those in the community with a particular skill or hobby – woodworking, craftsmanship, hunting, fishing, math, reading, writing, wildlife, ecosystems, history, cooking, chemistry or others – who would be interested in bringing a learning enhancement opportunity to the kids in grades K-5 can contact IMPACT at [email protected].

IMPACT meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the school.

Food pantry adds

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Thursday evening from 4 to 6, in addition to Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast

The First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal monthly Men’s Breakfast is held the first Saturday of the month, from September to June, at 7:30 a.m., at the church. The breakfast open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Church services

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m., led by the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre. Sunday School for children and adults begins at 10:30 a.m. St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon and Thursdays by appointment only at 688-4938.
