Timothy Even, the former Westbrook High School girls track coach, was indicted Tuesday on four counts of sexual assault by a Cumberland County grand jury.

Even, 27, was arrested in September and charged with four counts of gross sexual assault regarding his relationship involving a 17-year-old female student. Police said the relationship appeared to have been consensual.

In Maine, the age of consent is 16, but the charges stemmed from a portion of state law that prohibits adults who work in schools from having sexual relationships with students at the school where they work and over whom they have disciplinary authority.

Until the arrest, Even was a full-time educational technician at Westbrook High School and a class adviser. He was the head coach for girls cross-country and outdoor track, and also the coach for both boys and girls winter indoor track.
