BRUNSWICK — David P. Leland, 85 of 56 Baribeau Drive, died Friday, December 9, 2016. He was born in Randolph, VT., March 15, 1931, the son of Raymond S and Euphemia G. DeMange Leland. He graduated from Towle High School, Newport, NH and from the University of New Hampshire in 1953, as a cadet in the ROTC program.

He married Janet I. Ball, September 13, 1952 in Concord. Mr. Leland entered the U.S. Army in 1953 serving until retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1972. Mr. & Mrs. Leland lived in Harpswell for many years, moving to Thornton Hall this year. He was the founder of Leland Woodcrafters in Harpswell along with his son Bruce and later worked at Kennebec Co. He was a member of First Parish Church.

David was predeceased by a son Douglas Leland in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Janet Leland of Brunswick; two sons, Peter Leland and his wife Betsy and Bruce Leland and his wife Rachel all of Orr’s Island; a daughter Nancy Matthews and her husband David of New Haven, VT.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at First Parish Church, Maine Street, Brunswick with the Rev. Mary Baard officiating.
