Boys Basketball
Coach: Mike Francoeur
Last year’s record: 2-16
Key players returning: Jackson Hogan (sr., F); Isaiah Peters (sr., G); Connor Sirois (jr., G)
Outlook: Francoeur is excited for the season, though his team is comparatively green and he acknowledges the challenges that presents. “This year should be exciting to watch if you are a Scots fan,” he says. “We are very young; our roster includes three freshmen and three sophomores. How quickly we can get them up to speed will be a key to our success on the scoreboard.” Bonny Eagle faces a tough lineup of opponents this winter, and will need to keep on its toes to get by. “Our schedule is loaded with tons of talented teams,” Francoeur says. “We will need to be ready every night to compete.”

Girls Basketball
Coach: Scott Regan
Last year’s record: 9-11, fell in AA South semifinals to Gorham
Key players lost: Cassidy Emery, Megan McIntosh, Bethany Ashley
Key players returning: Lauryn Fagan (sr., C); Tracie Townsend (sr., G); Natalie Bushey (sr., F); Mia Ferrante (jr., F); Mackenzie Emery (so, G)
Key matchups: Dec. 9 @ TA, Dec. 15 @ MGA
Outlook: Regan’s girls face an intimidating schedule this season. Three of their four games to start the season are on the road in tough locales. Late in the season, Regan expects to wrangle with TA and MGA – as well as Sanford, who the Scots host on Dec. 20 – for the best playoffs seed. “With our schedule … we’ll need to get at least two of those three to have a chance at the playoffs,” Regan says. “Doubles with Gorham and Scarborough will not be easy; plus, playing at Oxford Hills makes every early win critical.” With the season already underway, the Scots have suffered an early setback, falling 52-49 at Thornton in both teams’ opener. “The league is incredibly competitive this year,” Regan says. “We will need to start off strong with our transition play and defensive intensity.” Bonny Eagle logged its best season in decades last year, beating TA in overtime in the tourney quarterfinals before succumbing to eventual State Champs Gorham. The return of critical figures like Emery, who earned conference All-Rookie honors, bodes well for the Scots across their schedule.

Cheering
Coach: Nick Perry
Outlook: “Just as long as the kids have a good season and further themselves as athletes and young adults, I really couldn’t ask for more,” Perry says simply. “States is obviously everyone’s goal, and we are working ten times harder – which will make getting there all the more worth it.” The Scots lost seven key performers to graduation in June, but return a trio of veterans to lead.

Boys Hockey (a co-op with Massabesic and Old Orchard Beach)
Coach: Loren Blair
Last year’s record: 9-9
Key players returning: Tanner McClure (sr.), Cam Roy (jr.), Brandon Caron (so.)
Key matchups: Dec. 10 vs. York, Dec. 22 @ Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth
Outlook: The MOB has been on the rise in recent seasons. McClure is among the State’s best, and Caron is his heir apparent; expect both boys to bring fireworks to the ice every chance they get. Blair selects the York and Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth contests as particularly critical because they are the first two on his boys’ schedule, and last year both meetings ended in defeat. Those bouts represent, therefore, a metric for the MOB, as well as an opportunity to kick off the season in style. Unfortunately, the team dropped the York game 5-2, meaning they’ll need to push especially hard in the follow-up. Also worth noting: The program has hired a JV coach and scheduled 12 JV games to help build for the future.

Girls Hockey (a co-op with Gorham)
Coach: Nat Germond
Last year’s record: 0-18
Key players returning: Mary Adams, Isis Adams, Anna Rathbun, Karen Stemm, Kaitlyn Jordan
Key matchups: Biddeford, York
Outlook: The girls hockey season seasons starts quite early, meaning the Lady Rams have, at this point, played five games; they stand 2-3 at the moment. That’s already a better record than they compiled last year, and they do boast a number of talented, determined players. “We’re working hard to get into the postseason,” Germond says simply of his girls. This team may not pull out any huge upsets this season, but they are clearly on the right track.

Swimming
Coaches: Morgan Gryskwicz, David Gryskwicz
Outlook: “There are many new swimmers this year,” says Morgan Gryskwicz. “We always have a positive outlook that they will do well.”

Indoor track coaches Chris Strout and Mike Burleson and wrestling coach Greg Gonyea could not be reached.

Bonny Eagler Tanner McClure looks to be an intimidating offensive presence on the ice once again this year.

Connor Sirois should play a prominent role on the court for the Scots this season.
