Kick it up for a cause
Seasoned line dancer? Never danced before? All are invited to join Flamin’ Raymin’ and Sizzlin’ Suzzin’ Sunday, Dec. 18, from 1-3 p.m. at Windham Town Hall Gym for a fantastic time line dancing – or learning to line dance! There will no charge, just the request that you bring a new unwrapped toy or a gift certificate to donate to a toy drive.
Special vets meeting
The Windham Veterans Association is having a special meeting on Monday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. to elect a new president. It is hoped that all members will attend. The meeting is at the Veterans Center.
Historical Society hours
Windham Historical Society will be on “winter hours” until spring. The museum and research facilities are closed to the public, except for occasional appointments which require a two weeks’ notice. From time to time, museum staff will be working at the society, and visitors are welcome to stop in. Genealogical or other research questions can be emailed to [email protected] or a message may be left at 892-1433. The society appreciates the support and interest shown by the public and looks forward to celebrating its 50th year in 2017.
Vacation countdown
An “Almost time for school vacation” party will be held from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Windham Public Library. Popcorn with toppings will be served, the movie “Elf” will be shown and a marshmallow-stacking contest will take place. The party is aimed at middle schoolers, but all ages are welcome. At the Library
Right after the weekly Story Time and Books & Babies programs, holiday cheer will abound. Drinks and paper goods will be provided by the library, and friends are asked to bring a simple snack to share.

Free winter coats
Windham’s Clothes Closet has many winter coats for children and women, and they’re all free. The Clothes Closet is open from 10 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday. The volunteers at the Clothes Closet are always seeking donations of gently used, clean blankets, towels and sheets.
Veterans Social-Mixer
American Legion Post Service Officer Chuck Whynot has started a Veterans Social-Mixer from 9-11 a.m. at the Windham Veterans Center. Vets can drop in for coffee, play cards, cribbage and when the weather is better, horseshoes.
Christmas bargains
It’s time to shop for some Christmas items at the North Windham Union Church UCC on 723 Roosevelt Trail. The Christmas room has great decorations, ornaments and stocking stuffers. And, thanks to a generous donation of gently used children’s clothing, there are some great wearable bargains and toys, too. The thrift shop is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon.
Ceramic classes for seniors
Lake Region Senior Center will hold Creative Aging Ceramics Classes after the first of the year. Seniors who are not members of the center may be eligible to attend. Windham sculptor Anne Alexander will be the instructor. If interested or for more information, call Blanche at 892-5604.
Also, a reminder that Tom Johnson, weatherman from Channel 6, will be the guest speaker at the Senior Center’s monthly luncheon on Jan. 9, 2017.
Disney on Ice tickets
Join other families from Windham as Disney on Ice presents “Dare to Dream!” Windham Parks & Recreation is offering tickets at the group rate for the Jan. 8 show at 11 a.m. at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. A block of seats has been reserved so families from Windham may sit together. Tickets are $20 per person, and may be purchased through Windham Parks & Recreation through Dec. 20 and picked up the week of Jan. 2. This makes a great holiday gift for the little ones.

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 has been decorating the Veterans Memorials in Windham since they were installed at the Vet Center and in front of the High School. On Dec. 7, the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, wreaths were placed at the high school memorial by members of the Post Honor Guard. Additional wreaths were placed in the Windham Veterans Center Memorial Garden on the Vietnam Memorial and the Veteran’s Memorial.
