Region Ten Technical High School students Shelby Bishop and Gwen Roberge raised funds for Adopt-A-Family as a service learning project for National Technical Honor Society. Working with Region Ten Technical High School students and staff, the two girls collected more than $1,000 in cash and gifts and then went shopping to get items from the families.
The Midcoast Maine Community Action caseworker collecting the gifts explained the mom of one family is already working two jobs and can’t do more to support her family.
My family was adopted by Salvation Army at Christmas time when I was growing up and I know what it means. When I saw everything wrapped I almost cried,” said Bishop.
Kellie Gardner, Region Ten NTHS advisor, said, “I am so proud of our school community and the heart they showed.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
