A colorful new collection of acrylics on canvas, “In the Bleak Midwinter,” is Pownalbased artist Wren Pearson’s newest exhibit at Freeport Community Library.
“My first winter back in Maine after living in Texas I was numbed by the shades of white and gray that played out across the fields surrounding our home,” Pearson said. “I found myself looking keenly at the red berries on the viburnum and waiting with anticipation for the daily visits of the scarlet cardinals to our bird feeders. Color was going to be the key to not going absolutely mad.”
Wren’s “In the Bleak Midwinter” exhibit is located in the Main Reading Room of Freeport Community Library during the month of January. For more information, visit the library’s website at freeportlibrary.com or call (207) 865-3307.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
