On Page A3 of the Jan. 23 print edition, the Portland Press Herald ran a Washington Post article on women’s rallies in red states, with a subheading describing the marches as “anti-Trump.”

As a person who participated in the Women’s March in Augusta, capital of our red-and-blue-striped state, I see the marches differently. The vast majority of marchers weren’t anti-anyone. We are for human rights, affordable and accessible health care and environmental protection. We want our country, and our state, to be the best that they can be, for everyone who lives here.

The Women’s Marches are far stronger than any person or any party. They are re-energizing three generations of men and women to work together for change. A song we sang in front of the State House, “I Believe in You,” summed up our positive approach. Thank you.
