WEST KENNEBUNK — Evelyn Mercie Brown, 95, of Kennebunk, died Feb. 21, 2017, at her residence.
Evelyn was born July 9, 1921, in Kennebunk, the daughter of Walter D. and Olive M Paul Brown, and is a high school graduate.
Following her religious calling, she entered and served the Mount Mercy Convent in Maine, along with other convents in Maine and Massachusetts for over 20 years, before her health led her to resign. She then became a nursing assistant, working at Tewkesbury Hospital in Massachusetts for over 30 years.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk, enjoyed tending her flower gardens, spending time with her large extended family and playing a mean game of dominos with anyone willing to be beaten.
Survivors include: her brothers, H. Chester Brown and his wife, Harriett of Lyman, and Clarence Ray Brown and his wife, Nancy of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a sister, Regina Adeline Eaton of West Kennebunk; and many nephews, nieces and a wide circle of extended family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
