KENNEBUNK and WESTON, Mass. — Marjorie Toppan Scott, 73, of Kennebunk, passed away on Feb. 16, 2017.

She was the beloved wife of Dr. Arthur M. Scott Jr., beloved mother of son, Arthur M. Scott III and his wife, Julie, of Tequesta, Florida; daughters, Elizabeth Scott of Long Island, New York, Jennifer Lindsay and her husband, Wade, of Scarborough, Maine, and Victoria Scott of Boston, Massachusetts; beloved grandmother of four grandchildren, Madelyn and Maura Lindsay and Jeremy and Jack Scott; sisters, Helen Nannery and her husband, Tom, and Deborah Toppan; beloved sister of brothers, Clough and Norm Toppan; and sister-in-law, Patricia Morgan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was born on March 6, 1943, to Wellington and Marjorie Toppan of Weston, Massachusetts. She attended Weston schools and graduated from Weston High School in 1961. After graduation she continued her education at Malden Hospital School of Nursing in Malden, Massachusetts, graduating in 1964, as a registered nurse. Marjorie joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a second lieutenant, serving on active duty from 1965-1967, and achieved the rank of first lieutenant.

 

 

In 1965, she began her career in nursing at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where served in the VIP ward as the nurse in attendance for many dignitaries.

She was assigned as the private nurse to former President General Dwight David Eisenhower. Marjorie always cherished the friendship she developed with Dwight Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie, during her time at Walter Reed. While at Walter Reed, Marjorie met her future husband, Captain Arthur M. Scott Jr. MD. They were married in 1965, in the Walter Reed Chapel, eventually settling in Kennebunk, Maine, where they raised their four children.

Visitation will be held at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, Maine, from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 10. Services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, March 11 at Bibber Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Aaron Werner. Burial will be at a later date at Southern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Springvale, Maine.
