He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he valued many long and active friendships. He was a former member of Arundel Yacht Club where he sailed with family and friends for many years.

Playing doubles tennis with a local group was a favorite pastime for over 40 years, and he also downhill skied with family and friends for over 50 years. He had an annual thriving vegetable garden until recent years. He was also very interested in history and could often be found reading and learning more about it. He and his wife traveled frequently with Elderhostel, often to learn more about history.

He is survived by: his beloved wife of 34 years, Elizabeth A. Green of Kennebunk; his children, Robert Douglas Green of Belhaven, North Carolina, John Duncan Green and his wife, Susan, of Lyman, Maine, and Julia Lisa Buchanan of Arvada, Colorado; and a brother, Thomas D. Green of New York City.
