JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The University of Southern Maine women’s outdoor track and field team opened its 2017 spring campaign Friday at the University of North Florida’s Spring Break Invitational posting 11 times or marks that met qualifying standards for the New England Division III Championships in May. The meet features competitors from all three NCAA Divisions and NAIA schools, as well as unattached post-collegian athletes.
Huskies meeting New England Division III Championships standards included senior Neka Dias and sophomore Emily Close in the 100- meter hurdles, senior Liz O’Neal of Brunswick in the 400-meter hurdles, and senior Briana Pina in the hammer throw.
O’Neal punched her ticket to the NE Division III meet with her time of 1:07.83, and Pina threw the hammer 42.11 meters (138-2).
The Huskies will spend their spring break week training in Florida, and compete next Friday and Saturday (March 31- April 1) at the Spikes Classic held at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, Fla.).
