Class to help speaking English

Another “Speak Clearly” class begins Thursday, March 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St. 

The class, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, is especially designed for women who can speak English but need help with pronunciation and accent reduction. Free transportation is available, as well as free child care for preschoolers.

Gun powder historical topic

Don Wescott, of the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust and a steward/docent for the Gambo Falls Preserve, will speak when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St..

Wescott’s topic is the gun powder production at Gambo Falls on the Presumpscot River from 1824-1904. During the Civil War, about 25 percent of the military gunpowder used by the Union Army was produced at these mills. 

Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, at  the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

Joyce Cassidy will entertain with music to stretch to.

Annual button show

The Maine State Button Society will host its annual button show and sale – with the theme of “April Showers Bring May Flowers”  – from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, at St. Louis Alumni, 649 Elm St., Route 1, Biddeford.

Raffles will be held every half hour. “April Showers Bring May
Flowers” buttons will be on display with awards given to the top three best display cards.

Lobster and chicken rolls will be sold.  Admission is free and open to the public.
