BRUNSWICK — We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Michael Burton Wing, 65, of Brunswick, ME, on Sunday, July 23, 2017. He died from injuries sustained while riding his bicycle in Brunswick.

Mike was born in Bath on October 2, 1951, the son of Carroll Burton and Eleanor Mae Garland Wing. Michael graduated from Morse High in 1969 and received his BA in Philosophy from Gordon College, Wenham, MA.

On April 25, 1981, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bath, he married the love of his life Deborah Bartley of Greenville, ME, whom he had met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. He quickly and willingly fit into her Canadian French heritage, especially the Christmas tradition of “tourtierre.”

Never one to sit idle and always looking for new challenges, he held a variety of work experiences. During his lifetime, he was employed by the Bath Police Department, Cianbro, Dragon Cement, USM, the Elmurst Center, Vicarage by the Sea, Brackett Funeral Home, and Hawthorne House.

At the age of 50, Michael decided to change the course of his future and began to experience other interests such as enrolling in sign language courses and business classes at USM. He also volunteered at CHANS Hospice in Brunswick, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Tri County Literacy in Bath, and received a commendation for donating over 150 platelets for the Northern New England American Red Cross. His interest in Hospice evolved after he witnessed the care his mother received and he wanted to give that to others. In April 2016, he received the CHANS Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award.
