ARUNDEL — Richard M. Welch, a resident of Arundel, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, in Scarborough following a period of failing health.

Richard was born in Kennebunk on Feb. 16, 1933, a son of Fred L. and Wilhelmina (Clark) Welch, attended schools in Kennebunk, and graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1952.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.

In 1958, he married Joan Jellison and they would spend the next 52 years together.

Mr. Welch was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1986. After retiring, he was employed for many years at the Cape Arundel Golf Course.

Active outdoors all his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most of all, playing golf at Cape Arundel Golf Course.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, who died in January 2011; a brother, Douglas Welch Sr., a sister, Gwendolyn Beach; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Welch.

He is survived by: his two brothers, Nelson Welch and his wife, Barbara of Kennebunk, John Welch and his wife, Edna, of Wells; along with many nieces and nephews.

At the request of Mr. Welch, there will be no funeral services. Burial will be private.
