OAKLAND — The Kennebunk Rams improved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 32-7 road win at Messalonskee on Friday night.
Kennebunk opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run from Cam Lovejoy. The TD run was set up by a 50-yard run by Derek Smith.
The Rams would take a 12-0 lead on a TD run by senior standout Jake Littlefield.
After Messalonskee got on the board to make it 12-7, the Rams responded with an 80-yard kickoff return for a score from Smith to make it 20-7.
In the second half, Littlefield added a 65-yard touchdown run and Dante DeLorenzo scored on a 1-yard run.
Littlefield finished the night with 180 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Kennebunk QB Tripp Bush finished the night 4-for-5 through the air for 57 yards.
Kennebunk will host Falmouth next Friday night.
Wells 35, Spruce Mountain 0
WELLS — The defending state champions opened their home season with a dominant performance as the Warriors cruised past visiting Spruce Mountain.
Nolan Potter put Wells up 6-0 early with a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:32 left in the opening quarter.
Potter found the end zone once again early in the second quarter as he punched one in from 6 yards out to give the Warriors a 14-0 advantage with 9:28 left in the half.
That would be all the scoring in the opening half, but the Warriors’ offense exploded in the final 24 minutes.
Wells QB Michael Wrigley found Tyler Bridge with a 66-yard scoring strike just over a minute into the third quarter. Matt Tufts added the extra point to make it 21-0.
A few minutes later Potter would score his third touchdown of the night — this time on a 3-yard run — to make it 28-0.
Chad Fitzpatrick closed out the scoring with a 7-yard run with 5:14 remaining in the contest. Tufts added another PAT to make it 35-0.
SOUTH PORTLAND 37, MASSABESIC 20
SOUTH PORTLAND — The Red Riots held off a late Massabesic push to top the Mustangs.
Trailing 23-0 in the third quarter, Massabesic would get on the board when Nick Roberge connected with Isaac DesVergnes for a score to cut the deficit to 23-6. South Portland would get another score to extend the lead to 30-6, but Massabesic would respond with a touchdown rush by Owen Roberts and a successful two-point PAT to make it 30-14.
The Red Riots would put the game away in the fourth with another score, making it 37-14. DesVergnes added another score late to set the score at 37-20.
Massabesic will visit Sanford — which dropped a 49-15 decision to Scarborough last night — in a rivalry showdown next Friday night.
Winthrop/Monmouth 27, Old Orchard Beach 18
WINTHROP — The visiting Seagulls started the game on fire as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a safety and quickly made it 10-0 when Dylan Boudreau broke off a 70-yard TD run.
Winthrop/Monmouth answered to make it 10-8, but OOB responded with a 60-yard scoring strike from Boudreau to Zach Brasier to make it 18-8 at the halftime.
It would be all Winthrop/Monmouth from there as the Ramblers scored 19 unanswered points to secure the win.
OOB drops to 1-1 and will host Oak Hill next week.
