FREEPORT — Mary Jane Brewer, age 86, died at her home on Monday November 13, 2017 surrounded by her family and dedicated hospice nurse.

She was born March 20, 1931 in Augusta, ME a daughter of Harold Henry and Julia Margaret (Vaughan) Walsh. She was a graduate of Freeport High school and married her high school sweetheart, Sidney Leroy Brewer in 1952. Having lived and worked most of her life in the Freeport area, She retired from LL Beans after 30 years in 1987. Mr. Brewer died in 2013.

Mrs. Brewer loved to travel with her husband, having been to Washington DC, New York City, several times to Florida, and a cross country trip early in their marriage. An especially exciting trip for her and her husband was to Ireland in the late 1990’s from where she also visited England and Wales. She also shared a love of boating with her husband, and enjoyed their time at the camp they built together on Bustins Island, ME.

She and her husband enjoyed owning Newfoundland dogs including taking them boating with them. She was predeceased by her husband, and a sister, Nancy Walsh.

She is survived by a son, Scott Sidney Brewer of Freeport, two grandsons, Jeffrey Daniel Brewer, of Durham, Jared Scott Brewer of Sabattus; a cousin, Sally Walsh; three brothers-in-law, William F. Berkowitz of Topsham, Paul Brewer and his wife Carol of Florida, David Brewer and his wife Julie of Freeport; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Walker of Richmond.

A graveside committal service will be announced later in the Spring at Flying Point Cemetery next to her husband. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
