GORHAM — Former Freeport High School standout Nina Davenport poured in 27 points and added eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Bates College women’s basketball team to a 68-56 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.
The Bobcats (1-2) picked up their first victory of the season, while the Huskies (0- 4) remained winless.
Davenport logged a full 40 minutes on the floor for the third time in as many games. She made 9-of-16 shots from the field, and tied a career high by making six 3-pointers on nine attempts. She is averaging 28.7 points per game through three games and is up to 968 points in her career.
Kristen Curley led USM with 20 points from off the bench, while Emily Nicholson added 15 points and five assists.
Bates next plays a nonleague game at WPI on Saturday at 2 p.m.
