LISBON
Lisbon firefighters were able to stop a fire in the basement of a Douglas Street house before the building was destroyed Wednesday evening.
Firefighters responded to the home at the corner of Free and Douglas streets after it was reported there was smoke coming from the second floor windows, according to a post on the Lisbon Fire Department Facebook page.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire in the basement, saving the home and a vast majority of the property on the first and second floor living spaces. No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
The state fire marshal’s office was on scene Thursday morning, assisting members of the Lisbon Fire Department with determining the cause. The home was insured and the owners should be able to make repairs.
Lewiston and Topsham departments assisted in fighting the fire.
