BATH

Following recent construction on Pearl Street, the Bath City Council has decided to ban parking on the South side of the road from Willow Street to Washington Street. Previously, there were no parking restrictions on that street.

Major construction was undertaken in the area, with the installation of new curbing and sidewalk on the North side. However, if two vehicles park on opposite sides of the street, there is limited space for larger vehicles to drive down the road.

“If two vehicles are parking parallel to each other on Pearl Street, it makes it very dangerous especially for any emergency vehicles – especially a fire truck,” said Police Chief Michael Field.

Last week, councilors Mari Eosco and David Comeau conducted a neighborhood meeting with residents and city staff to discuss possible changes, with a consensus agreeing to the ban.

The council approved the parking ban unanimously.
