GARDINER — The Kennebunk wrestling team put together a strong performance at Saturday’s Gardiner Tiger Invitational as the Rams finished in fifth place in the 16-team field.
Leading the way for the Rams was Alden Shields, who captured the 120-pound championship. The standout finished the tournament with an impressive 44-second pin of Westbrook/Gorham’s Nicco Pappalardo.
Kennebunk would get third-place finishes from Sean Radel (106 pounds) and Alvaro Huezo Coto (160). Both wrestlers would win their consolation finals matches by fall.
Cole Dickinson (138), Toby Dunne (145), Brady Lamontagne (182) and Chase Lamontagne (195) all finished in fourth place.
Cony won the tournament title with 139 points. Nokomis was second with Morse/Wiscasset third and Bonny Eagle in fourth place.
Colby Frost (106), Caleb Frost (138) and Tyler Fitz (145) took home tournament titles for Bonny Eagle.
Cony would get first-place finishes from Noah Dumas (113) and Nic Mills (195). David Wilson (170) and James Boyd (220) won titles for Nokomis.
The other first-place finishers were Portland/South Portland’s Qasim Abdullah (126) and Zack Elowitch (152), MCI’s ZyAthony Moss (132), Mt. Blue/Spruce Mountain’s Tucker Nicholas (160) and John Howard (182) and Cheverus’ Zeb Leavitt (285).
