Margaret “Peg” Hannings, 95, of Freeport, Maine, passed away on January 14, 2018, of natural causes. There will be a graveside service in the spring (date not yet determined) at the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.

Peg was born in New York City on April 13, 1922. After graduating from Walton High School, she went to work as a proof-reader for the H.W. Wilson Company. Other jobs included being executive secretary for Contemporary Auto, Sealfons and BMW America.

Peg was married to William Hannings on January 6, 1946. They were married for 49 wonderful years.

After moving to Ridgewood, New Jersey, Peg enjoyed volunteering with various organizations including the PTA, Christ Church Women’s Guild and Valley Hospital. She enjoyed singing and was a longstanding member of the choirs of both The Church of the Mediator, Bronx, New York and Christ Church, Ridgewood, NJ. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her children’s interests in sports and music; always on the sidelines or in the auditorium cheering them on.

She and Bill together supported their children’s interests in scouting; always the first parents to volunteer for special projects and camping trips for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She loved spending time with her family and friends, gardening, sewing and was for her entire life an avid walker. After retirement, she enjoyed assisting her husband display his paintings at various art shows.

Peg is survived by Lynn (Scott Miller) Hannings; daughter, Robert (Valli) Hannings; son, grandchildren Kiern (Michael) Robillard and Stacy Hannings; great grand-daughter Faith Robillard; Janet Lynn (John) Taylor, as well as other loving nieces and nephews.

Peg is preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Hugh Lynn; her husband William Hannings; her brother Robert Lynn and beloved nephew FDNY Firefighter Tommy Lynn.
