Girl Scouts host ‘night out’

The Girl Scouts of Maine will host a Girls Night Out in Westbrook for potential members and volunteers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.

“Girl Scouts helps girls develop their full potential,”  Joanne Crepeau, CEO of Girl Scouts of Maine, said in a press release. “When a girl becomes a Girl Scout, she grows into a young woman who is self-confident, strong and compassionate. “She learns how to build and maintain healthy relationships.”

Blood drives

The Westbrook Knights of Columbus,Council 2219, is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at St. Hyacinth’s Church, 295 Brown St.

Alliance Realty, 290 Bridgton Road, Westbrook, is also hosting a blood drive from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Historical Society reminder

Westbrook Historical Society will be closed through Tuesday, Sept. 4, because of parking lot improvements at the community center, 426 Bridge St.

Happy birthday

Professional football player Trevor Bates  will turn 25 on Tuesday, Aug. 28. Bates is listed as a linebacker on the Detroit Lions’ roster posted on the team’s website.

He signed as a free agent with the Lions in May.

Bates, who was born in 1993,  played at Westbrook High School and the University of Maine. Bates previously had been with the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and New York Giants.
