The Westbrook American reported on Dec. 17, 1958, that Dewayne Shaw of Gorham removed an ancient elm tree on Main Street at the direction of a grocery chain making way for a Foodliner. Shaw discovered the tree’s root grew out of an old well.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Champagne of Westbrook had moved from Central Street to their new home on Saco Street.
