Lions club honors Phillips

Carl Phillips was recognized when the Gorham Lions Club held its holiday dinner Dec. 11 at Ocean Gardens Restaurant.

Phillips, owner of Phillips Towing and Repair, “volunteers his time and vehicle to assist the Gorham Lions as they raise 100 Stars and Stripes U.S. flags on the busy downtown streets in Gorham in May and lower them in October,” Ken Aldrich, Lions president said.

Twenty Lions and spouses enjoyed the evening and “saluted” Phillips, Aldrich said.

‘Fur’ tree at Baxter

The Youth Services Department at Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St., is holding a donation drive for the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.  

“Come visit us to choose a tag off our Fur tree to donate to a furry friend in need.  Take your tag shopping with you and bring back a suggested item for your chosen animal,” a library posting at baxterlibrary.org says.

Slinky the Ferret, the new Humane Education animal at ARLGP, will pick up the   donations Jan. 11 when he visits the library for a special preschool program.

Donate blood

The American Red Cross  will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at Narragansett Elementary School, 284 Main St.
