USM art faculty exhibition

The University of Southern Maine Art Galleries celebrates the creative work of 20 members of its art faculty this winter with the USM Art Faculty Exhibition taking place at the USM Art Gallery on the Gorham campus, Thursday, Jan. 31, through Sunday, March 3.

The exhibition will include artwork in an array of media by outstanding full- and part-time art faculty and will include photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation and digital art.

The opening reception is set for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, on the Gorham campus with artist talks beginning at 5:30 p.m. (Snow date is Feb. 7).

“It has been four years since we have had an Art Faculty show and we are thrilled by the energy from an influx of new professors,” said Carolyn Eyler, USM director of exhibitions and programs.

The walk provides a fun introduction to snowshoeing and a great chance to see the forest and the Presumpscot River in the winter. “This is a great program to try snowshoeing with your family for the first time because WinterKids will be lending free snowshoes to anyone who doesn’t own a pair,” a land trust announcement said.

The plan is to split into two groups – one for families with kids and one for adults – so the program is appropriate for all ages. After the walk, participants can warm up with some hot cocoa.

Space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, visit www.prlt.org.
