Spring at the library

Join Katy McCarty from the UMaine Cooperative Extension for a presentation on rhubarb recipes at the Bridgton Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27.

Later the same day, from 1-2 p.m., Cherie Knight and Jane Whitworth will lead a program on May Baskets.

Vernal pool exploration

Bridgton’s Lakes Environmental Association is partnering with the Greater Lovell Land Trust to host an exploration of local vernal pools from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

This is an annual tradition to check on the ephemeral springtime pools at the Heald and Bradley Ponds Reserve in Lovell. Come along to hunt for aquatic insects, salamanders, frogs and other creatures emerging from their long winter naps. To sign up and for more information contact alanna@mainelakes.org

Final Monday cleanup

Show pride in your community on the last Mother Earth April cleanup day with the Lakes Environmental Association on Monday, April 29. All are welcome to join in the effort. Meet at the LEA office, 230 Main St., at 2 p.m. and plan to work until 4 p.m. For more information, contact alanna@mainelakes.org.

Spring Farmers Market

The Bridgton Farmers Market will move to its summer location on the green on Depot Street (behind Renys) on May 4. The market will operate from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through the spring and summer. The farmers thank all of their customers who supported the market over the winter at Bridgton United Methodist Church and they look forward to seeing everyone again outside for the warmer weather. Community Band rehearsals

The Bridgton Community Band will begin rehearsals for its 2019 summer season at 7 p.m. May 6 at Stevens Brook Elementary School. Rehearsals will be held at the same time and place on Mondays throughout the summer. 

The band will perform free concerts on Wednesdays in July and August, for a total of seven. New members are always welcome. For more information contact band President Dick Albert at dickalbert43@gmail.com.

Youth Safety Day

The Bridgton Police Department will host its third Youth Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4, at Stevens Brook Elementary School. Last year more than 100 people attended the event, which features activities and information related to bicycle safety and youth safety in general. Families and kids of all ages are encouraged to come and bring their bikes for a free safety inspection. Past sponsors include Macdonald Motors, Hannaford and the Bridgton Lake Region Rotary Club. The Bridgton Community Band is tuning up for its summer season. Rehearsals begin May 6 and new members are welcome.
