Senior Lunch and Learn

In partnership with Casco Bay CAN and law enforcement, the topic for the April 30 Lunch and Learn program is “Prescription Drug Safety for Seniors.” This is a great opportunity to learn about the safety and security of prescription medications. Topics covered in the presentation will be the proper storage and disposal of medications, trends with prescription drugs and how to report abuse, followed by a question and answer period. Those attending this at the Community Building, 381 Intervale Road, are encouraged to bring unwanted or expired medications that will be disposed of properly.

Lunch will be provided by the New Gloucester Village Store for $15 per person; select from the menu when registering at ngrecreation.com. Or, you may bring your own lunch. The program is free and starts at 11:30 a.m.

Foot stomping fiddle

T-Acadie, a folk trio and contradance band from Midcoast Maine, plays traditional French Canadian, New England and Appalachian tunes including Sea Shanty’s, Cajun waltzes, two steps and Zydeco. This versatile group plays lots of foot-stomping fiddle and folk tunes that range from sizzling reels and jigs to mesmerizing airs and sweet waltzes.

The trio will perform at the Village Coffeehouse May 4. The concert will be held at the Vestry of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road. Annual Town Meeting

Registered voters in New Gloucester are urged to attend their annual Town Meeting May 6 at the Memorial School Gymnasium, 86 Intervale Road. Note the town office window will be closing at 5 p.m. to allow staff to set up for the meeting. A voter check-in will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will start at 7 p.m.

Those in attendance will have an opportunity to discuss the warrant articles and to vote on the FY20 budget. View the warrant at newgloucester.com or see copies of it posted at locations around town.

Gear up for Town Meeting

Study up for the May 6 annual Town Meeting by watching a video on local access cable TV Channel 1302. The program is comprised of two public hearings and two meetings held at the Amvets Hall on April 16. They consist of a public hearing on a senior property tax assistance ordinance, informational meeting on the public safety (fire and rescue) budget, Budget Committee public hearing on the FY 2020 proposed budge and a Budget Committee meeting.

The program is being broadcast at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26; Saturday, April 27; and Sunday, April 28; as well as the following weekend in the same timeslots.

History Barn re-opening

The 2019 spring re-opening of the New Gloucester History Barn, 383 Intervale Road, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon May 4. Historic New Gloucester neighborhoods will be featured, along with permanent exhibits of vintage horse-drawn vehicles and mill hardware. The event is free and open to the public.
