Margaret Edison Dunlop 1923 – 2020 BRUNSWICK – Margaret Edison Dunlop, 96, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2020 at MidCoast Hospital, with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Skowhegan on June 27, 1923, the only daughter of Guy E. and Essie (Drillon) Dunlop.

She was a graduate of Brunswick High School and she earned her A.B. from Wellesley College in 1944.
In 1945 she joined Bowdoin College Admissions Office as a secretary. Margaret was appointed assistant to the director of admissions in 1955 and associate director in 1976, retiring on July 31, 1989. Director of Admissions, William R. Mason III said of Ms. Dunlop’s retirement, “Margaret Dunlop managed this office for 44 years with the highest standards of performance and courtesy. We will miss her both personally and professionally.”

In recent years, Ms. Dunlop had studied at the University of Maine at Portland-Gorham. She had been president and a member of the board of the Brunswick Area Humane Society, had been a member of the admission and distribution committee of the Brunswick Area United Fund and was former state education officer for the American Association of University Women. She was also a communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Margaret traveled extensively, enjoying most of those trips with her mother. Tossing whole peanuts out for the squirrels and watching them find their prize inside delighted her, as well as feeding the many birds.
Margaret was an avid Red Sox baseball fan. Checking their televised games before calling Margaret was appreciated, so as not to interrupt the game.

She has a big heart for animals, especially strays, and her cats and dogs over her lifetime were those she rescued off the street that came to her and her family for refuge.

She was also an accomplished Bridge player, and was in many tournaments. She traveled to Portland to play twice weekly into her 90s, stopping at Denny’s for a breakfast meal before coming home, often times late at night. She was a very special lady and those that loved her will miss her greatly.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan or to an organization of your choice.
