Hundreds gather at Portland Police headquarters Monday night to protest institutional racism and violence by police against people of color. More than 1,000 people took to the streets, and tensions grew later in the evening, including several standoffs with police and some vandalism. Officers wearing riot gear moved in and 23 people were arrested for failure to disperse, police said. A man driving a tractor-trailer truck was arrested for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon for driving into the protest area. Monday’s demonstration followed largely peaceful marches in the city Friday and Sunday to protest the death of George Floyd in Minnesota. Derek Davis/Staff Photographer
