Edward R. Couture

BIDDEFORD – The world lost yet another kind and fun-loving soul who was the best of everything good. Edward R. Couture, 90, of Biddeford, passed away late Thursday evening on Feb. 18, 2021, in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on Sept. 2, 1930, a son of Lucien and Ovina (Picard) Couture. Edward attended Saco and Biddeford schools. On June 3, 1950, he married the love of his life Therese Deschenes at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.

Edward was employed by Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard for 30 years as an operating engineer. He was in his element when he was involved in construction projects. This talent for fixing or fabricating just about anything was reflected in his meticulously maintained home. This innate ability turned into a part-time business after his retirement from PNSY. He enjoyed the interaction and feeling of accomplishment he got from helping people.

Edward (a.k.a. Easy Eddy) enjoyed frequent gastronomic family gatherings. His favorite pastimes were bowling, fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. This game created many lasting memories and brought family together. These memories will be cherished forever. Edward will be remembered as a patient, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His physical presence will be sorely missed in many ways, yet his loving spirit and memories of his smile and laughter will live in our hearts forever.

Mr. Couture was a parishioner of Notre Dame de Lourdes church and later St. Joseph’s church of Good Shepherd Parish. He also was a member of the St. Louis Alumni Association.

He is survived by three children, Priscille Denton and her husband Chris, Connie Hammer and her husband Nick, Marc Couture and his wife Denise (Rivard); and his brother, Roland Couture. Pepere is also survived by 10 grandchildren, David, Jonathan, Chris D., Mike, Dan, Chris R., Adam, Matthew, Allison and Karinne; and six great-grandchildren, Donny, Violet, Isaiah, Christopher, George, and Leon; as well as nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. A graveside ceremony and celebration of his life will be held when it’s safer to gather.
